San Ferdinando is in a strategic position to discover Calabria. Lying on the Tyrrhenian coast and full of potential, with a recent but intense history, small but with great challenges ahead, it is the mirror of a true and welcoming south, capable of always renewing itself and in spite of everything.

12 reasons, among others, why it is worth knowing.

San Ferdinando is very sensitive to respect and care for places and tries to promote this type of culture starting from its own territory. In fact, its community, in addition to committing itself to keeping the country clean, is very active and has undertaken various good practices also presented at a European level (“Act-Now”). You decide which one to practice and/or support. Here you can do plogging (“ecowalk”) or you can choose to donate a tree to the community, plant it, dedicate it to someone and entrust it to one of the local children who will take care of it and update you on its growth (“mettiamo radici-1AlberoxSanFerdinando”). Or, again, contribute to the creation of urban green spaces by planting rare flowers or aromatic plants or native botanical species in the flower beds of the town making San Ferdinando greener (link “parkifyng the future”).

…..you should know that San Ferdinando has been chosen by a Finnish start-up to test, in collaboration with the National Research Council – CNR, the first circular economy project based on the collection, recovery and transformation of cigarette butts. You can therefore actively contribute to the experimentation of a model which, once tested, will be replicated all over the world for the reduction of the phenomenon of littering, that is the abandonment of small waste material in public places which represents on of the main causes of environmental degradation on a global scale (“snuffit”).

…that here, from summer 2023, there is “Visioni Collettive Festival. Magnifica San Ferdinando”, an international festival of art and architecture contemporary with many important Italian artists and creatives, architects and students of New York ; the festival was winner of a prestigious national award of Ministry of Culture. Moreover the town is a perfect set for visionary and dreamlike photographic shots! In fact, the photo exhibition “Saluti da San Ferdinando” (“saluti da san ferdinando”) was selected by an international jury to partecipate in Countless Cities 2021, the Biennal of the Cities of the World (“countless cities”) of Farm Cultural Park (“farm cultural park”) of Favara in Sicily, one of the most important independent centers of widespread contemporary art in the world, also present in the Italian pavillon of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021 (“biennale Venezia”)!
